Identity theft (impersonation)
Pretending to be someone else, by any means, to obtain a benefit for yourself or another person while harming someone. For example, using another person's data or documents to take out a loan or carry out transactions in their name.
Penalty: 1 to 3 years in prison.
Art. 212 COIP
Suppression, alteration or falsification of identity and civil status
Illegally blocking, changing, adding or deleting identity data in ID cards, birth records or other Civil Registry records, or registering as your own child someone who is not. It is more serious if a child's identity is altered, a child is swapped for another, false birth details are given, or a newborn is falsely declared dead.
Penalty: 1 to 3 years in prison; 3 to 5 years if it affects a child's identity.
